Keynote Speaker: Carey Cummins

Carey Cummins is the most severely injured survivor of the deadliest drunk-driving crash in U.S. history. At age 14, she was among the passengers on a school bus that was struck head-on by a drunk driver traveling the wrong way on an interstate highway. The devastating crash claimed the lives of 27 of the 60 people aboard the bus.

Carey sustained third-degree burns over more than 60% of her body and severe fourth-degree burns to her right leg, which ultimately required amputation below the knee. Today, she walks independently with a prosthetic leg.

Determined to build a meaningful life after tragedy, Carey earned a college degree and became a registered nurse. She later co-produced the documentary Impact: After the Crash, which chronicles the lasting effects of the crash and is available on Amazon Prime.

Join us Thursday, October 15 for an Opening Reception Meet and Greet, open to all forum registrants. It’s a great opportunity to connect with fellow burn survivors, healthcare professionals, and friends from across Canada before the forum begins.

Location: Barn Hammer Brewery, 595 Wall Street, Winnipeg

Transportation: Bus departs Canad Inns Polo Park at 6:45 p.m.; you can also meet us at the brewery at 7:00 p.m. Return bus departs Barn Hammer at 9:45 p.m.

Food: Catered by Feast Bistro, featuring traditional Métis food as a celebration of our Manitoba roots.

Beverages: Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Food is included with the reception, but beverages will be available for individual purchase.
