Raising funds in support of the Mamingwey Burn Society.
Thank you for your support!
We are very excited about our upcoming conference for Burn Survivors, their families and friends, as well as health care professionals and firefighters. Please use the link below to register for “The Life you Want, the Strength You Have” conference taking place October 24 & 25, 2025 at Canad Inns Polo Park, 1405 St. Matthews Ave, Winnipeg, MB. You can register for the whole conference or for only one day.
Our keynote speaker is Ben Harms. At just 18, Ben Harms survived a devastating car accident that claimed the lives of two friends and left him with burns covering over 50% of his body. He had both legs amputated, was given just a 1% chance of survival – and yet… he lived. He rebuilt.
Since then, Ben has walked in 17 countries, become a professional engineer, married the love of his life, and is a proud father. He lives with purpose, sharing a message that proves hardship can lead to joy, strength, and connection.

We congratulated 5 successful recipients of the Thomas W and Ellora M Hart Memorial Scholarship at our conference on October 26, 2024. Successful recipients Rose Walker, Maria Cristina Laureano, and Samantha Doyle were presented their awards by members of the Hart family, pictured here. Unable to be in attendance were recipients Shay-lee Jackson and Mia Barker who are pictured in the slide show.
Some of our burn survivors were featured on an episode of the CBC show You Can’t Ask That. “The show asks the misunderstood, judged, or stigmatized people in society the questions you’ve always wanted to know the answers to. It’s about breaking down stereotypes and offering a genuine insight into the lives people who live with labels. Were you in an accident? Can I touch your burn scars? Are people afraid of you? Canadians talk about their journeys and the stigmas they face as burn survivors.”
The show is currently available on AMI but will be posted to CBC Gem in the coming weeks.
